Every couple of weeks the Town of Port Hedland organise an outdoor movie, usually projected on the side of a building with deckchairs available to relax on... Last Saturday night they featured Wasteland, a documentary featuring Vik Muniz, a Brazilian born, American based Photographer. Muniz was looking to engage pickers working at the largest rubbish dump in the world, transforming the very items they scavenged from the tip into large scale portraits.. using the very pickers to create the works. As you can see the final results are fantastic, but what was most inspiring were the people he met along the journey. It's available on DVD and well worth a watch. Ta, Port Hedland. Hopefully we'll one day have recycling here too!!!?
