Last weekend was very busy in Hedland. Friday night was the opening of Rising Dust: Photos from the Robe Rive Rodeo at the Courthouse Gallery. An opportunity to wear heels and be treated to a glass of Yellow (oo la la). On Saturday afternoon was the first WestEnd Markets, where a number of local artists sell their wares. But the most entertaining part of the weekend was the North v South football derby. Minus a small incident with the use of homemade misquito rellepent.. (predominantly detol and oil, Greg and I were shiny people repellents.. who were clearly on everyone's noses) the game was exciting right down to the final siren. Maybe not the most equally matched (North seemed to have recruited the Calvin Klein models of Hedland, South focused more on the team spirit) South put up a surprise late charge. Maybe it was the smack on the bum by the opposition, or the taunting from the Calvin Klein supporters, but South scored four fast goals in a row, putting them within 18 points. Alas, the siren went before they could really run out of puff.. This weekend, South face Karratha. Should be a close game. And no detol smells planned.
Ps - this story is dedicated to Adrian. The groom in the photos.. and a keen Swannies supporter. The best kind of supporter.
